General Maintenance - Department of Public Works

DESCRIPTION:
Performs a variety of unskilled or semi-skilled maintenance work, and operates a variety of equipment in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of City water, sewer, street, and storm drainage facilities and systems.  Also maintains City grounds, parks, rights-of-way, and buildings.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience: graduation from high school or GED equivalent, and two (2) years of experience relating to construction, maintenance, or repair. Applicants should have some computer experience relating to Public Works activities in areas of software maintenance programs, RF telemetry, SCADA, GIS and work reports. Necessary knowledge, skills and abilities: knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in maintenance, construction and repair activities, and possess a mechanical aptitude; skill in operation of some of the listed tools and equipment, including appropriate computer skills; ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time; demonstrated ability to climb ladders and enter manholes, vaults and narrow openings; freedom from fear of high places and confined spaces; willingness to work outside in extremely hot, damp and/or cold weather; ability to work safely; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to read and interpret construction plans; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, other departments and the public; must possess proven integrity; ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.

Firefighter - Paramedic

DESCRIPTION:  Protects life and property by performing fire fighting, emergency medical services at the level of a licensed paramedic, hazardous materials and fire prevention duties.  Maintains fire equipment, apparatus and facilities.  

QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED equivalent, Must be 21 years of age or older at time of employment, Must possess or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid State driver's license without record of suspension or revocation, No felony convictions of disqualifying criminal history, Must be able to speak, read and write the English language, Prefer Two (2) years’ experience as a licensed firefighter and paramedic, Completion of MFFTC Firefighter II, Hazardous Materials Operations, Drivers Certification Training, Incident Command System, Must possess Michigan Department of Public Health Paramedic License and Must meet City residency requirement within 90 days.

Department of Public Works - Varies Seasonal Positions Available

Seasonal (Full-Time and Part-Time Positions Available)
Salary:
$10.00+ per hour

Major Roads 
Duties will be primarily working with the sign portion of the Roads Division assisting with sign asset management and the sign changeover to high-reflectivity, prismatic Type program.  There will also be some work involving road repairs.  The candidate for this position should possess computer proficiency skills as well as be able to perform field work.

Local Roads 

Duties will be focused on working with the full-time staff on the asphalt maintenance and repair program.

Water/Sewer 
Duties are primarily focused on assisting a full-time employee with sewer inspections CCTV camera, manhole rehabilitation program by rebuilding manholes and inspecting and painting hydrants throughout the city. Heavy lifting may be required

Parks and Grounds
Duties will focus primarily on planting, mowing, trimming, weeding, etc. all city parks and municipal buildings in and around City campuses, emptying trash receptacles, assisting full-time staff on park and campus irrigation system.

Forestry
Duties will focus primarily on assisting city arborist maintaining urban forest, including; planting, removing, chipping and pruning all trees located on municipal properties and easements.

Electrician 
Duties will focus primarily on assisting Grade 5 electrician in operation of city lighting systems.

Note: All seasonal employees will assist in City events, DPW open house and the general maintenance of the DPW building equipment and vehicles.
