How can I make a Utility payment after hours?
The City has two drop boxes conveniently located in front of City Hall. One is accessible via drive-up, and there is also one located to the left of the front doors on the City Hall building. Utility payments must be received in the drop box BEFORE 8am to be included in the transactions for the prior day.
How can I make a Tax payment after hours?
Payments can be put in either of the two drop boxes at any time during tax season, with the exception of Tax Due Date. Payments made on due date must be received by 5 pm to be considered on time. Payments made in the drop box after that time on due date will be considered late.
How do I get a stamped receipt if I use the drop box?
Enclose a stamped self-addressed envelope with your payment, and you will be mailed a receipt.
I sent my payment electronically, through my checking service, why is it late?
The City of Auburn Hills receives online bill payment checks every business day, however, not all banks send them electronically. Some banks will physically cut a check and mail it to us directly. If you choose this option, allow at least 10 days for mailing. If we do not receive the payment by the due date, it will be late.
What might prevent my payment from posting?
Failure to use your parcel number when paying taxes and your utility account number when paying your water bill may result in your payment being posted to the incorrect account. Please double-check parcel and account numbers before submitting an online payment.
When is my water/sewer bill due?
All water/sewer accounts are billed monthly and are due on the 15th of each month. If the 15th is on a weekend or Holiday, the next business day is considered the due date. All payments made after the 15th will have a 6% compounding penalty applied.
How do I make Name or Address Changes on my water bill?
Contact the Utility Billing Department at (248) 370-9340.
When are property taxes mailed and when are they due?
Summer Tax bills are mailed on July 1st and are due in mid-September without interest. Winter Tax bills are mailed on December 1st and are due by mid-February without penalty. (See your bills for exact due dates) To avoid interest and penalties, please allow extra time if mailing your payment. Postmarks are not accepted.
If you do not receive your tax bill by mid-July, you can call the Treasurer’s Department to request a copy of your tax statement. You can also download a copy of your tax statement for free at our Property Tax Lookup website. Register for an account, search for your property and click the check box to list yourself as the owner. You can then download all information available.
How is the amount of my tax determined?
Tax amounts are calculated by multiplying the Taxable Value of a parcel by the millage rate for your school district, then divided by 1,000. There are four school districts in the City of Auburn Hills: Avondale, Pontiac, Rochester, and Lake Orion. Verify your school district to get the correct millage rate.
What is the IRS School Code for my School District?
- Avondale: 63070
- Lake Orion: 63230
- Pontiac: 63030
- Rochester: 63260
