SHARP – Senior Home Assistance Repair Program
A volunteer driven program designed to help senior citizens and disabled residents to continue to live with dignity in their own homes. The unique feature about the SHARP program is that while the labor is performed by volunteers, the materials are paid for by the homeowner. Frequently, it is the high labor costs that make some simple repairs too expensive for those living on a fixed income. One of the ways to save money is to “do it yourself!” Many of our homeowners have been “do it yourselfers” in the past, but are no longer able to because of health or mobility issues.
The SHARP program is now accepting requests for assistance. Assistance requests should be relatively simple in nature and not require the need for a licensed contractor or permit. Eligible tasks may include but not limited to: changing furnace filters, changing storm windows, changing light bulbs, light painting, moving furniture or light yard work. All SHARP volunteers must go through a background check and training. Please call 248-370-9353 or email to sharp@auburnhills.org for assistance.
The City offers 2 yard maintenance programs for income and age eligible homeowners: one for lawn mowing and one for snow removal. These programs are funded by Community Development Block Grant (CDBG). Funds are offered to low income senior citizens and disabled adults. Call 248-370-9353 for details.
Auburn Hills Fall Rake & Run
Dependent on current health orders and volunteer availability, we are hopeful that we will be able to once again offer Fall Rake and Run. This program is for homeowners over the age of 65 who may require assistance in cleaning of their yards. Call 248-370-9353 to get your name on the interest list.
