Auburn Hills Management Assistant Named Director of Authorities

Auburn Hills, MI---December 17, 2015---The City of Auburn Hills, a dynamic community committed to innovation and growth, is pleased to announce that Samantha “Sam” Mariuz has been appointed Director of Authorities.  Ms. Mariuz graduated last week from Wayne State University with a Master of Public Administration degree and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Oakland University. She has been with the city for two years as the Management Assistant, an internship role reporting to City Manager Tom Tanghe. Sam will begin in her new position on Monday, January 11, 2016.

“I am honored to serve the Auburn Hills community as Director of Authorities. As director, I will continue to foster smart growth and development to be sure Auburn Hills remains an economic leader in southeastern Michigan,” said Mariuz.

The Director of Authorities position will be responsible for managing the day-to-day functions of three economic development entities within the city, the Brownfield Redevelopment Authority, Downtown Development Authority, and Tax Increment Finance Authority. Ms. Mariuz recently led the effort on behalf of the city to launch its new Downtown Development Authority and has been involved in the activities of the Tax Increment Finance Authority in her role as Management Assistant.

“We are pleased to have Samantha join us in this capacity,” said City Manager Tom Tanghe. “It is rewarding for our staff to have participated in developing Sam over the past two years and providing her with a skill set that she can now put to work for the community in which she completed her internship. It is not often that our internships translate into full time jobs. No doubt she hits the ground running and brings with her a substantial amount of education, local experience, enthusiasm and energy,” Tanghe added.
