Auburn Hills, MI—October 2—The City of Auburn Hills, a dynamic community committed to innovation and growth, is pleased to announce its new ‘Pop-Up Public Square’. Tucked in the heart of downtown Auburn Hills, lies an otherwise forgotten municipal parking lot; until now.
This area, located at the intersection of Auburn and North Squirrel, directly behind Mom’s memorial, was the original platted Auburn Town Square in 1826. In recent years, the parking lot adjacent to The DEN at 3388 Auburn Road, has been the gathering place for a variety of community events.
The Auburn Hills Tax Increment Finance Authority recently approved the purchase of artificial turf to create the new ‘Pop-Up Public Square’ to enhance downtown by adding more greenspace. The Square will be adorned with bistro lights to illuminate the area into the evening hours. The Square reclaims a typically car-designated area of concrete, into a lush pedestrian gathering space for community engagement, events, and imagination.
“The Pop-Up Public Square will have lasting benefits to the community. The Tax Increment Finance Authority’s innovation has created a hands-on approach to improve downtown and completely reimagine and reinvent an uncharacteristically gray public space,” said Patrick Hassett, Chairman of the Tax Increment Finance Authority. “The town square will be a community asset for residents and visitors to share and strengthen the connection between the people and downtown Auburn Hills," he added.
Downtown Auburn Hills is a recreation destination surrounded by an abundance parks, natural amenities, and trail systems. Community events taking place in Downtown will now feature this wonderful community asset.
On Friday, October 6, join us after the Avondale Homecoming Parade, to experience the brand new Pop-Up Public Square. At 7:00 PM, that same evening, there will be a sunset yoga under the lights, followed by cider and doughnuts at The DEN.
