Auburn Hills, MI-May 21, 2018-The City of Auburn Hills, a dynamic community committed to innovation and growth, announces that the Fire Department recently received a Class 3 Insurance Services Office (ISO) rating after an extensive third party audit of the department’s fire suppression capabilities. This is an improvement of two points over the previous ISO rating. This new classification puts the Auburn Hills Fire Department in the top 3% of all fire departments across the United States.

“We are very proud of our Fire Department. This favorable review is the result of many personnel who assisted with providing the necessary documentation needed in each of the categories that were evaluated”, stated Mayor Kevin McDaniel. “The Auburn Hills Fire Department continues to deliver top notch services to our community and this new rating speaks to how well-run our department continues to be”, added Mayor McDaniel.

The independent audit took over four months to complete. The inspection evaluates three specific categories critical to fire suppression; Communications, Water Supply, and Fire Department Operations. Numerous facets in each of three categories are measured to determine the final ISO rating. The evaluators systematically examine the capabilities of the dispatch center, the availability of water and the water pressure throughout the city, number of fire personnel, training records, fire apparatus, fire equipment, maintenance records, fire prevention and response times.

Interim Fire Chief Antonio Macias added, “I am very proud of the improved ISO classification. It is an independent validation of the efforts of our personnel to constantly advance our service level. In addition to the benefits of a safer community, I hope that property owners receive a financial benefit in the form of reduced insurance premiums.”

The improved ISO Class 3 rating will go into effect on June 1, 2018. Not all insurance companies utilize the ISO classification when calculating insurance premiums, however many do. Property owners are encouraged to contact their insurance providers and advise their representative of the new ISO classification. While many residential property owners could benefit from the upgraded classification, large commercial and multi-family properties could experience a significant decrease in insurance premiums.
