AUBURN HILLS WELCOMES NEW CHIEF OF POLICE JEFFREY BAKER
New Police Chief to Lead the Auburn Hills Police Department

Auburn Hills, MI--May 30, 2018--The City of Auburn Hills, a dynamic community committed to innovation and growth, is pleased to announce the appointment of its new Chief of Police, Jeff Baker. The appointment by the City Council was confirmed at their meeting on May 7. This appointment comes on the heels of the retirement of Police Chief Doreen Olko.

Chief Baker’s career began in 1992, as a part-time police officer in Richmond, New Haven and Chesterfield, Michigan. In 1993, he joined the Port Huron Police Department. Starting as a Patrol Officer, he moved up the ranks as a Community Services Officer, Warrant Officer, Road Sergeant, Detective Sergeant, Patrol Lieutenant, Administrative Lieutenant, Police Captain, and ultimately as Chief of Police.

Throughout the course of his career, Chief Baker gained valuable knowledge and experience in many aspects of law enforcement education and training. In addition, Chief Baker is the past President of the Police Accreditation Coalition (PAC) for the State of Michigan’s state accreditation commission.

“Auburn Hills is a beautiful area with a robust business community. I am very much looking forward to working with the committed and professional staff at Auburn Hills, and to continue to provide superior police services to the citizens and visitors”, said Chief Baker. “I wish Chief Olko the best in her retirement, and congratulate her on a terrific career in law enforcement.”

Baker is a graduate of Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command. In addition to attending numerous educational and training programs, Chief Baker holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Leadership and a Master’s Degree in Human Resources from Central Michigan University.

He resides in the Port Huron Area with his wife Michele and his six children.

Chief Baker will officially begin his employment with Auburn Hills on Tuesday, June 5. He will be sworn in at the City Council meeting on June 11, 2018, at 7:00 p.m. The public is welcome and invited to attend.
